an apology to jesus christ

If Jesus could talk to us, what we he say about the world today? The world he gave his life for? To quote a meme that triggered me, “The metamorphosis of Jesus Christ from a humble servant of the abject poor to a symbol that stands for gun rights, prosperity theology, anti-science, limited government (that neglects the destitute), and fierce nationalism is truly the strangest transformation in human history.” Color me disgusted.

Check out the gorgeous and emotive narration delivered by the incomparable Simon Howard on Twitter.

  1. I was saddened by your accurate depiction of the current state of our country. While not my favorite poem of yours, it was well written and makes its point clearly. It reminds me of the religious writings I had done in my early twenties. Maybe I will share a couple of them with you.

  2. In a recent post I urge readers to consider how Jesus would feel, what he may say or do if he were walking the earth in the flesh today. Thank you for your words.

  3. Something I have often pondered, the lack of humility…. where has it gone? You have so beautifully captured what most of us live, see, experience…a threat brought on by senselessness, lack of compassion, empathy, humility. Thank you for your beautiful words, may it spark inspiration to all who read it.

  4. I agree with you 100%! Shakespeare also wrote ‘The devil can cite scripture for his purpose’ and you see that a lot. People who claim to be Christians can quote the Bible for their own evil agenda. Anyway, that’s just my little rant about it.

    All the best, Michelle (michellesclutterbox.com)
