transgressions paid

I often find myself drawn back to Ireland in my poetry. Not sure if it’s a matter of ancestry alone.

We have visited “the motherland” many times over the years. The natural beauty of my origins in County Cork (Healy side) and Counties Mayo/Sligo (Conway side) is unparalleled almost anywhere in the world. The people are warm, gregarious, and funny. The stories and legends are epic. And the craic is always mighty.

With that, I love incorporating Irish mythic allusions into my poems. Blending the surreal with the real. Creating dense imagery that yields a much deeper resonance than language alone can provide. Something that makes you think as well as feel… deeply grounded in a sense of place. And perhaps slightly less anchored in time.
