let the rains fall

Hello, friends!

Over the last few years, and for this week’s poem in particular, I have learned that I serve several Muses each time I write poetry.

One Muse loves mouthfeel and euphony (ear feel). She always steers me to the rhyme and cadence in certain poems…this one in particular tastes (and sounds) yummy to me.

Another Muse loves heavy themes: desire, sin, shame… her voice (and brain) was quite prominent this week.

Yet another Muse loves archetypes: fire, rain… oft used in poetry for aeons and central to this poem, too.

Whichever Muse most tickles your fancy, I hope you enjoy reading this poem as much as I did writing it.

Please let me know your thoughts & feelings in the Comments Section below.

let the rains fall

let the rains fall

let the haze of gray days

wash away the fire

that burns inside

desire that seeks

to consume me whole

body and soul

let the rains fall

baptize me clean

from the keen

of original sin

lurked deep within

let the rains fall

let the flame of shame

settle and tame

‘neath pouring rain

the insatiable need

to feed the furnace

of my yearning heart

  1. Such a sense of a deep cleansing of body, heart and soul from the rainfall…extinguishing of fire, forgiveness of sin and erasure of shame…positive vibes from this poem, PS!

  2. How appropriate because it’s absolutely pouring here today. Everyone needs a good cleansing and starting over, even if we are just running away from mistakes in our past. I have always been a restless soul, so I appreciate this theme of making a fresh start.

  3. Yes….tears are the cleansing rains of grief, sorrow and regret…but they can never wash away their own source…rather, they nourish it…..only with time does the salt diminish…..
