Merry Christmas, my friends! π
Not sure about you, but the weather here is frigid and the snow is howling in Upstate New York this Christmas weekend.
I am so blessed to have some remaining family to spend time with this holiday season. And Mom is certainly with us in spirit.
But I know there are so many people alone for the holidays. And others who might feel isolated or depressed.
I wrote this poem, thinking of you. Wanting you to know that you are not alone and that you are loved by this magnificent online community of poets and readers and creatives.
And I am wishing, especially you, some holiday magic and some precious moments of cheer.

the gift of the Fair Folk
Mrs. OβRiordan tends her fire
to keep out the chill of this Christmas Eve
alone with her thoughts, she sips her hot toddy
to warm her heart with some memories
of better times, of happier days
outside the window, the junipers sway
to the music of the night, the voice of the wind
summons snowflakes to caper and gambol
Mrs. OβRiordan recalls a wee lad,
cheeks rosy red from the exertion
of creation, a snowman to greet Christmas
the pride in his eyes, look mother! look mother!
tears spill from her own as the boy fades away
outside the window, the fae watch the widow
hearts broken with sorrow, they each place a piece
of their shine upon the juniper branches
Mrs. OβRiordan starts at the scene
the skein of yearning unravels its bind
the gift of the Fair Folk has lit up the night
a magical snowful glowing delight
helps her feel less lonely for Christmas
Lovely, PS. Happy Holidays to you. Keep warm <3
Thank you so much, Jean! 3rd glass of wine tonight is very much helping with the warmth. Happy Holidays! πβοΈπ·ππ»πΉβ¨
This moving piece brought tears to my eyes, my father died on Christmas Eve 52 years ago. Too early and so missed by me, his only child. It will resonate with many Iβm sure as this is a time to celebrate family and friends, past and present.
You always place a piece of βshineβ on us, your readers, with your words.
May 2023 bring forth many poems, good health and happiness. π

This certainly resonates with me this Christmas Eve. I lost my much younger sister four years ago today, she loved Christmas and made it so lovely for all of us. Merry Christmas from this beautiful island in the North Atlantic. π²π²
So sorry for your loss, Sheila. Truly. Extra love and best wishes for Christmas! βοΈπππ»β¨πΉ

It brought me to tears. Holiday season, I have seen innundated with messages of sadness and of being alone.
Nothing more important than to reach out to such people. All of us carry some sadness which comes up esp now.
Powerful piece.
Cheers, Anish and thank you. Itβs so sad how many people are lonely, especially at the holidays. βοΈππ»π·πβ¨
We all know several Mrs. O’Riordans and hopefully we invite them in for Xmas dinner or a cup of tea. A lovely message Pat. βοΈπ
