to be

Welcome, my dear digital friends!

Most weeks I post poetry that was written several months before. Saved for an occasion. Or compelled to be released by my Muses.

Beginning this week, when weekends allow me the grace of time, I plan to write a fresh poem for immediate release.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter (@ps_conway), you will be familiar with the daily word prompts that a lot of poets use to hone their skills each day.

One of today’s word prompts was the word “present.”

This poem just flowed naturally today from that word as a sort of mythical meditation. Gotta be honest… I am so in love with it!

But let’s throw my bias to the curb and hear from you. What did you think? How did this mythical meditation impact you?

As always, please share your thoughts, feelings, reactions in the “Leave a Reply” section below.

to be

to be in this moment

watch the violet hyacinth flow down the meadow

spilled like ardor off a jealous west wind

know this breeze

the hymn of the bees

the secrets hidden in the non-violence of work

“Jai Guru Deva Om”

The Beatles intone

to be present in the now

hear the Teacher and honor Her with blackberries and sage

listen to cardinals chirp birdie birdie birdie

so self-aware

in their daily prayer

to know the passion of love midst the brambles of birdsong

“Jai Guru Deva Om”

The Beatles intone

to be, oh, just to be

witness the plop of hazelnuts that fall into a stream

see the salmon rise to eat them… and grow wiser

under this sun

i have begun

to become everything, yet nothing, and know such peace

  1. I love it!! Because nature speaks to me this is beautiful. My favorite is the “jealous west wind” but I feel like I’m at peace sitting by a stream.🫶

  2. I love the self-awareness of the birds singing their own name and the hymn of the bees. This religious experience of nature accompanied by a Hindu chant relinquishing all knowledge to a higher power is pure genius. Love it Pat! 🙏

  3. Your beautiful words are a meditation, nature a portal.
To be in the moment is magical.
    I love this poem.
    Namaste 🙏🍀🍀🍀

  4. A tiny but potent respite from my chores today. I had to stop everything and pass through this portal with full attention. Such sweet cadence. I was captured into this sensual scene.
And, what a great series to begin: For Immediate Release. Looking forward to the next stop.
