our fandango

Greetings, my digital friends!

It’s always interesting how a poem originates.

Procol Harum’s 1967 smash-hit song “A Whiter Shade of Pale” was playing on Spotify as I sat down to write this morning.

It’s trippy and lyrically opaque. But the opening line is so iconic and memorable… “We skipped the light fandango…”

Combine that with one of the Twitter word prompts today being “fandango,” and I felt like I could not mess with this cosmic synchronicity.

Et voilà… this poem was the result.

I hope you enjoy this sensual, impassioned seaside escape. I certainly had a lot of fun writing it.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts/ feelings/ reactions to this poem in the Leave a Reply section at the bottom of the page.

our fandango

let us dance along the sand dunes

on this seaside promenade

pigeons coo and nod in witness

you with your castanets

me with my tambourine

a living homage to Renoir

coy like the following seas

which pursue our aching need

deep in this courtship

simmering with the steam of desire

lips sweat wet with expectation

let us dance to this affliction

heart-sick in the dramatics of love

knowing love is endless, relentless

like the surf hard pounds intention

so it shall be at last

when the music ceases

and our fandango fades

and all that remains

is the beating of our hearts

  1. How I would love to witness the scene, at first with amusement, leading up to such a passion that I would look away.
Love the synchronicity of the word ‘fandango’
    An amusing love poem ❤️
    🙏🍀🍀🍀

  2. I bet you play a mean tamborine, esp backed with all the passion! Another poetic gem, PSC– Bravo! May you and your muse continue to trip the light fantastic! 💗

  3. I love the expression ” lovesick”, but I mostly associate it with unrequited love. “Simmering with the steam of desire” is such a hot verse, but its hard for me to feel this heat on a cool white beach. The music making is a picturesque image, which makes it feel more historical. Very romantic Pat! 💞
