the sun you never wake for

Hello, my happiest of Valentines! Thank you for stepping into this week’s world of love-soaked words and romantic contemplations. So glad you could join me. 🌹

I have so many new projects in flight for 2026. Top of mind is finishing the manuscript for my new book of poetry – hopefully in the next three to six months. And, as always, access to my current published books is listed further below, if interested.

Now on to some new poetry…. 💞

This week’s poem insisted on being read on Valentine’s Day week.

As so many of you know who regularly read my poetry, I enjoy pathos – darker, more haunted lyrics that speak to life’s sadder moments.

It’s my literary philosophy, really.

To quote the Introduction from my first poetry book Echoes Lost in Stars, “can we truly appreciate the light without first understanding darkness?”

So for my regular readers, surprise! This poem is all about the light. Enjoy.

For my new readers, welcome. I do lean a wee bit darker most weeks. This one is a bright exception, and I hope you’ll let it land that way.

As to this poem?

It came to me while watching my wife sleep on a luminous winter morning, the world outside still white from a heavy snowfall the night before.

The moment felt so peaceful. So enhanced. Heck, almost holy.

And for those of you who write? You know what happened next. I had to sprint to my laptop (albeit quietly, so as not to disturb her luxuriant slumber) and capture the moment in words.

Do you know that feeling of overwhelming love? That breathless ache in your heart that speaks to an enriched soul. That sense that your life is larger because they’re in it. You know, in that moment, you would gladly die for that person and pray for that day to never come.

And so I wrote this poem for my beloved. My Susan. Thirty-five years have passed in the blink of an eye. And I hope to capture you sleeping (in a not-too-creepy way) for thirty-five more.

I love you.

As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts, feelings, and reactions to this week’s poem in the ‘Leave a Reply’ comment section at the very bottom of this page.

the sun you never wake for

dawn unfolds like a gentle benediction
touching your face, a smile unfolding slow
while your eyes stay closed, lashes lush,
curling timelessly toward the hush
of warmth’s resplendent devotion.

pristine as winter sunlight, its apricity
highlights the fragile miracle of you
like frost upon a looking glass, delicate,
a fleeting thing, yet ever your reflection.

i am suspended in love’s tender reverence
at the smooth of your skin, soft as snowfall;
dust motes recalled in wistful wisps,
freckling your cheeks in quiet constellations.

your lips purse, steeped deep in secret dreams
touched faintly by the turn of morning white,
eager yet chaste, no nightmare dare invade
the sanctity of that space reserved for night,
and i ache to be the sun you never wake for.

Latest Publication News

December was a productive month for me. Eight poems published. If you are interested in a copy of any of these, I have embedded the Amazon links below.

  1. I have six poems published in FromOneLine Volume 7, an anthology of poems/stories where the writers were given one opening line to maintain, then build a poem/story around it. Gratitude to Meghan Dargue for including my work and for editing such a thoughtful compilation from a deeply talented group of writers.

  2. I have two poems published in The Belfast Review, Winter/Spring 2026. Based in the north of Ireland, this gorgeous emerging literary magazine, in addition to poetry, “aims to create a dialogue between the arts, featuring genres not usually included in literary journals such as song lyrics, plays, screenplays, and hybrid forms, to better reflect the lived experience of art, the self, and the city.”

Latest News – Life Sucks

So far, Life Sucks has received so many ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Editorial Reviews. More to come soon.

I’m anticipating a whole bunch of solid Reader Reviews to begin populating Amazon in the next few weeks, too. The goal is to get to 50 Reader Reviews asap to kick Amazon’s promotion engine into a higher gear.

Speaking of Editorial Reviews, we secured a BIG ONE – BookLife. This is the indie press division of Publishers Weekly and represents a major credibility lift to my published work. Here is a link, in case you’re interested in reading the entire review:

And here are a few other snippets of other editorial reactions so far!

“Snort-laughs and gasp-worthy wit – PS Conway goes there, and it’s hilarious.”

– “A must-read for anyone stressed, cynical, or just in need of a damn good laugh.”

– “Darkly funny, brutally honest, and weirdly comforting – like therapy, but with colonoscopies.”

  1. A love poem for the special person in your life, lucky Susan.
Thinking about the word ‘love’ and how easily it is used … I love chocolate 😂, however, seriously, love is almost indescribable, the foundation of life, we don’t thrive without it. How lucky are we to have love in our lives PS.
Love to you and yours.. 🙏🙏🍀🍀

    1. Love this comment, as always, Sandie. I always imagine we are formed of stardust, an endless flow of energy from the dawn of time, sparkling, translucent, children of original love that began creation. Not some silly man made god to fight ove… but Love as the basis for all existence. And, cycle after cycle, that Love allows us the choice to connect or separate. Give and receive. Grow or shrink. All a choice as to if/when we decide to tap into it… ok wow, that was a little rambly hehe

      1. PS that is so beautiful and exactly what I think. Human ashes examined under a microscope look like sparkling jewels, star dust indeed.
“What the world needs now is love sweet love” 🎶 🙏
